JUNE 20, 2016 – VEHICLE OFF THE INTERSTATE, 15 FT IN THE AIR, 1 TRAPPED

At 05:15am, New Hope Stations 1 & 2 were dispatched to I-540 in the area of the Triangle Town Center Blvd exit for a report of an overturned vehicle. Chief 100 (Chief McCaulley) arrived first, and advised communications that he had a vehicle that had ran off the highway and was wedged between the exit ramp and the highway, leaning over the wall, with 1 person entrapped. Due to the positioning of the vehicle, he requested Raleigh FD Rescue 1 to respond to the scene.

Crews from New Hope Engine 1 and Rescue 14 assisted the RFD Rescue 1 firefighters with stabilizing the vehicle and extricating the driver. The driver was extricated and turned over to Wake County EMS, who transported him to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Engine 1 stood by until the tow truck operator was able to pull the car free. Once the car was pulled back several feet, it promptly fell onto the exit ramp, where it was removed by the tow truck.
